This tutorial will help you solve the problem with Outlook (Express) if you receive either of the following errors:
0x800CCC79
This error means that you have selected to use SSL to connect to your mail.
This is not possible using mail.YOURDOMAIN (where YOURDOMAIN is your domain name).
The only way to use SSL, would be to use the servername that hosts your site, as the incoming mail server address.
0x800CCC0E or 0x800CCC0D
* The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.YOURDOMAIN', Server: 'mail.YOURDOMAIN', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Solution 1
If you have not changed anything since the last time you checked / sent mail, do not adjust your settings simply close Outlook (Express), reopen it and try again later.
If this has not resolved your problem you need to check your Outlook (Express) settings, making sure that the POP3 (and SMTP if applicable) server(s) are as in the screenshots, and that your full user name and password are correct.
If you are still getting the error, then you can test your connection by following this procedure.
Click the Start button then RUN type in cmd on (Windows NT/2000/XP) or Command (Windows 95/98/ME). This will open a new command prompt window, with white text on a black screen.

Type in the following command, telnet mail.YOURDOMAIN 110 (replace YOURDOMAIN with your actual domain name) and then press enter.
You will then be connected to the email server.

Type in USER followed by your email address e.g. USER you@YOURDOMAIN and then press enter.
You will then get a message +OK password required logging in
Type in PASS followed by your password e.g. PASS test12345 and press enter.
If it is correct, you will get an +OK logged in. message.


Type quit to exit the telnet session.
If you can do this, you have connected to the mail server and so the problem lies somewhere with Outlook Express.
If you can't get in this way either, it could be that your password has somehow become corrupted. Try logging in to siteadmin and reset your mailbox password. Try Outlook (Express) again.
Solution 2
If this does not resolve your problem and you are running anti-virus software or firewalls, disable them and try again. If the problem has vanished, configuration of these products could be the problem, particularly if they are set to automatically scan incoming and outgoing email.
NOTE: As of Service Pack 2, Windows XP has a firewall built into the operating system which you can disable too and try again.
To do this click on the Start menu and then enter your Control Panel.
Next double click the Network Connections icon.
From here you should be able to identify your dial-up/broadband connection which you need to select
Right-click the connection, and select Properties and select the Advanced tab.
Here you can access the Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Firewall
Solution 3
If you are still getting this error message, there is a more drastic options to try.
Reinstall TCP/IP from scratch.
Click the Start button then RUN type in cmd on (Windows NT/2000/XP) or Command (Windows 95/98/ME). This will open a new command prompt window, with white text on a black screen.
Type in netsh int ip reset c:
esetlog.txt
If you're still having problems, it could be that Outlook (Express) is itself corrupt.
