The following is a simple tutorial on how to setup SMTP AUTH in Outlook Express (OE). The screenshots taken are from Outlook Express 6 but are applicable to most versions of Outlook/Outlook Express 4.0 and upward.
Home

Beginning

First of all you need to open the mail program and then select the "Tools" option. From this menu select the "Accounts" option. This allows you to setup and configure your mail accounts.

Selecting your mail account providers

This menu gives you an overview of all your mail/news/directory accounts already created. You can see this user already has 1 mail account created. You need to select the mail account you wish to add the SMTP service to and click properties (right hand side of menu).

Configuring servers

Now select the servers tab at the top of the menu. You need to make sure you have the POP3 and SMTP server filled in as detailed below. You should already have the POP3 server name set. For the SMTP server enter:

smtp.yourdomainname

Once you have done this you you need to check the box next to "My server requires authentication". Now select the "Settings" button across from the checkbox.

Entering the authentication settings

Select the "Log on using" option. Now enter your SMTP username and password. In general, the SMTP username/password are the same as the hosting account username/password. You may also want to select "Remember password" to make sending mail more convenient.

Simply select "OK" on this menu and all subsequent menus and you are ready to start sending mail!

Advanced

It has come to our attention that some ISPs are starting to block the standard SMTP port.

With this in mind if you get this problem please try sending using port 2525 instead of 25 in the following part of the setup
